I don’t know if I’m just noticing it more than I did before, but it seems like Peruvian culture is all around me these days, even at my favorite Shakespeare library and theatre.
Bee and I had a great time at the Folger Shakespeare Library last night, where we got to listen to a lot of different early Mexican and Peruvian Christmas music, which was all really lively and percussive.
Our favorite songs were the traditional Quechuan dances, and we really liked watching the percussion section switch between different drums, goat toe rattles, and gourds. I’m now a big fan of Peruvian music and I’m on the hunt for some good CDs to bring home. Any suggestions are welcome!
(Unrelatedly, yes, those are dinosaurs on my dress. No shame.)
